REPORTING LOST PIGEONS As can be seen as you peruse this site, Racing Pigeons are well looked after and trained by their owners but some times they get lost, there are several reasons for this happening, clashing ( organisations liberating pigeons that are going in opposite directions within a few minutes of each other) a pigeon can then become disorientated. If you see a pigeon that is weak and appears lost - do your best to catch it, pigeons are used to being fed and watered at regular intervals and soon get hungry, dehydrated and tired they are then at the mercy of a long list of predators. If you manage to catch it please give it a drink in a small and if possible deep container - some food for example rice, dried peas or corn will help. A Racing Pigeon must be wing stamped according to the rules of The Royal Pigeon Racing Association if you carefully spread the wings of the pigeon you may find a name and telephone number stamped on the longest flight feathers it then becomes quiet easy to report the pigeon to its rightful owner. If you can contact the owner he / she has a responsibility to make arrangements for their pigeon to be collected from you and they will pay all costs involved. If there is no stamp on either wing the ring usually on the right leg will for example be as follows GB2001N34567 the GB indicates that the ring was issued in the UK, there are rings issued by many Associations and some are listed below - with a telephone number and an Email address, if the Association has a web site click on the link and follow the site instructions.
